Sargeant Families Blog February 1st-5th

Safety Reminders
When picking up at the back of the school please make sure not to park in crosswalk areas where kids cross the street.  No one should be park in red areas.  This prevents kids from crossing safely.  Please also have your kids cross at the crosswalk only.  They should not be running across the street in other areas.

Please be aware of kids using the crosswalk.  Allow them to cross when you are at the stop sign.  We have had reports that kids are trying to cross and they are waiting as cares aren't letting them walk across.

Allow plenty of time for drop off in the morning. Drive slow and help keep everyone safe.  Thank you!

Registration

Registration for next school year is now open. Please log on to the district website and choose returning registration. If you need help or have any questions, please call the office. Registering early helps us determine staffing. Thank you!!!

IB Corner
February Attribute: Knowledgeable
Students who are KNOWLEDGEABLE  have explored relevant and significant
concepts and can apply this knowledge to new situations.
How can families help at home?
- Encourage your child to read books at home that correspond with the topics being covered in school.
- Encourage your child to read books at home in your home language.
- Ask your child about what they are learning in school and engage them in conversations about it: “Why do you think that is an important thing to know about?”

Symptoms and COVID Precautions Reminder

Please report the following scenarios on the RCSD Student Online Absence Reporting Form, keep your child home, and await a call from the RCSD COVID-19 Tracing Team.

The COVID tracing team will let you know the timeline for return and next steps. All information needs to be communicated to them. The school site does not determine the return date.

Please read the RCSD communication from today. One thing to note is that the new state guidelines require all students to wear face coverings (not shields) unless there is a medical reason approved by the nursing team. If your child has been wearing a shield, please start transitioning them to a mask.

Sargeant Families Blog - January 25th-29th

Safety Reminders
Thank you for always remembering to wear a mask when you pick up your kids in front of the school and at the park.  We appreciate it!

Please do no double park on N. Cirby after school. This is where the pick up line begins but it won't start moving until the kids start coming out. Double parking prevents regular traffic from safely using the street.

Zoom information will be sent in a district email.

Valentine's Celebrations
Before you know it, Valentine's Day will be here and this is typically a day where classrooms do a small celebration with their students.  We will be following these guidelines:
- No homemade treats.
- Any Valentine's items need to be brought in three days beforehand to sit.  Items should be limited to small, packaged things that usually come with kids' cards.
When passing things out, sanitize beforehand.  Social distancing when passing out.  Bags go home, not eaten/opened at school.

Safety Updates/Reminders
Thank you for remembering to slow down around school and stop completely at the crosswalks.  It's helping keep our kids safe.  We appreciate it.

If your child walks home or rides their bike, please remind them about safety procedures.  They should walk with someone if possible and head straight home.  They should always be aware of their surroundings and not talk to strangers.

Wellness Wednesday/Workout Wednesday
As a staff we have been talking about self-care and how to make sure we are taking care of
ourselves.  One way to take care of yourself is to get in exercise.  Every Wednesday for the staff is Wellness Wednesday where they can wear their exercise clothes to school. We'd love everyone to participate!  Please encourage your child to wear workout gear on Wednesdays.  Maybe make it a family thing and take a walk or do something together after school/work.

i-Ready

In the next week or two, we will be participating in the i-Ready® Diagnostic. The i-Ready Diagnostic helps teachers to effectively assess their students and then provide instruction based on each student’s unique needs.  i-Ready Diagnostic assesses the following skill areas:

Reading Math

• Phonological Awareness • Number and Operations

• Phonics • Algebra and Algebraic Thinking

• High-Frequency Words • Measurement and Data

• Vocabulary • Geometry

• Comprehension

i-Ready Diagnostic is an adaptive assessment in reading or math. An adaptive assessment is a test that automatically adjusts the difficulty of the questions according to each student’s performance in order to determine his or her abilities in reading or math. i-Ready is a very different kind of test that presents students with questions that can be both too easy and too hard. It is designed to do this until the assessment finds exactly the level at which the student is performing. We encourage the students to complete the test to the best of his or her ability, and know that it is okay to get questions wrong.

Each time a student gets an item incorrect, he or she will be presented with a simpler question until the diagnostic finds the grade level at which the student is performing. The assessment efficiently assesses students across multiple grade levels, allowing for identification of root causes of students’ struggles or for identification of areas where a student is ready for further challenge.

Once your child completes the test, he or she will be automatically assigned online instruction to support his or her progress in mastering each skill.  Some classes work on i-Ready instruction in the classroom and it's available at home if you have a device too.
