FUN RUN Update:

A BIG THANK YOU to everyone in our community who has participated in the PTC Fun Run Fundraiser! By the time this reaches you we will have raised $20,000 towards our goal of $30,000! To celebrate we'll be hosting a lunch recess dance party this week! And remember, if we reach our $30,000 goal our students will get a chance to turn Mrs. Barker into a Principal Sundae!

Our deadline is growing closer and the more we raise the more we can do for our students. Remember that this fundraiser is managed 100% by PTC so every dollar raised stays with our school! There is still time to share your student’s fundraiser page with your contacts and community!

Win a Free Sargeant Adult Spirit Wear Tee

Hello Sargeant Families!

We're half-way through our Fun Run Fundraiser! Thank you for everything you have done to make this fundraiser a success! We have some big goals this year and we need your help to make sure they happen.

Can you take a few minutes today to share your child's Fun Run Fundraiser link on your Facebook page? Once you do that, comment on our post (https://www.facebook.com/SargeantPTC) and we'll enter you in a drawing to win a free adult-sized Sargeant Spirit Wear Tee from our next order (scheduled for November).

Remember, every donation gets us closer to our goal so ask your friends and family to chip in! We're planning to fund field trips, build shade structures, and install a new sound system for the Multi Purpose Room. All of the money donated to this fundraiser stays in our school and benefits our kids!

Thanks!

Sargeant Spirit Wednesday

Wednesday, 9/13 was our first Sargeant Spirit Wednesday. It was a lot of fun to celebrate being a Bulldog!
Mrs. Zanelli’s class won the honor of having Sarge visit and stay in their classroom until our next Sargeant Spirit Wednesday on October 11th!

Every day matters at Sargeant Elementary. A new attendance system has been put in place to help us
connect with our students and families that may need extra support with positive attendance. You will be receiving a letter next week if your student has had a certain number of tardies or absences. These letters are going out as reminders and opportunities for support. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at kbarker@rcsdk8.org

Spirit Wear Friday!  It is Fun Friday.  Wear your Bulldog Blue!

Sargeant Celebrates Positive Behavior

During the month of August, our site participated in a PBIS kickoff to teach students all about the B.A.R.K expectations. Students participated in the "Collect The Rainbow" challenge to earn different colored bulldog bucks from each grade level. Students worked hard during the month of August to collect the rainbow of bulldog bucks from teachers and staff all around campus!

We are always on the lookout for Bulldogs who are doing an awesome job following our B.A.R.K expectations.  Throughout the month of  September students who earn a bulldog buck with a paw print sticker on it will redeem it for a Bulldog pencil! Other fun incentives are happening in teacher classrooms as well.  Keep being safe, respectful, responsible, and kind!

Student Council

Hello Sargeant families, we have a final update regarding student council elections! Mrs. K and Mrs. Palin have been so impressed with the responsibility and enthusiasm shown by students who are running for office. It makes us so happy to see the students proud to represent their campus and run a kind campaign. We are so excited for Student Council this year!

This past week, students were hard at work campaigning for votes by hanging up their posters and recording their speeches with Mrs. K and Mrs. Palin. Third through fifth-grade students will view the speeches in their classrooms on Monday and Tuesday, then cast their votes for the officer positions. Mrs. K and Mrs. Palin will go through all of the ballots, and tally up the votes on Tuesday, 9/12 after school. After that, we will call all families of students who ran for Student Council to thank them for an amazing election process, and to let them know whether or not they were elected for an officer position this year! Our 2023-24 Student Council officers will be announced to the campus at school on Wednesday.

Thank you so much for supporting and encouraging your child throughout this process. We are so proud of them! Please reach out with any questions.

Sincerely,

Mrs. K - kkurpershoek@rcsdk8.org

Mrs. Palin - kpalin@rcsdk8.org

September 4 - September 8 - Community Connection

September IB Attribute

September's learner profile attribute is principled.  Students who are PRINCIPLED have a sense of fairness and are honest with themselves and with others.  They understand that sometimes there are rules and they follow them.  They have an understanding of moral reasoning.

How can parents help to develop students who are Principled at home?

  • Involve your child in deciding on the rules for a game or activity and then ensure that they stick to the ones that have been decided upon.

  • Encourage your child to play games that involve teams.  Discuss with your child the qualities of a team player.  What sort of person would they want on their team?

  • When your child wins a game, insist that he or she is a well-mannered winner. They might thank their opponent or shake hands with them if it's appropriate.

  • When playing a game, don't change the rules or let your child win. Being a gracious loser is just was important as being a good winner.
