Healthy Treats for Birthdays
Just a reminder that we do not allow parents to bring in cupcakes, cookies, etc for birthday treats.  I know this is hard, but we want to make sure to limit the amount of treats at school.  If you'd like to do something for your child, please talk to the teacher about ideas.  Non food treats are ok, as well as donating a favorite book of your child's to their classroom.

Does your child love to start their day on a positive and fun note?  Every Friday at 8:30 students can join Ms. Ellison on stage in the multi for follow-along dance fun! All students from kindergarten to fifth grade are welcome to join,  and no dance experience is needed.

Solo un recordatorio de que no permitimos que los padres traigan cupcakes, galletas, etc. para obsequios de cumpleaños. Sargeant Families Blog - August 18th

We finished the first full week of school and are loving every minute of it!  Thank you to all who attended Back to School Night Thursday night. We appreciate your support in your child's education. 

If you were unable to attend Back to School Night this week, or attended TK and Kinder before school started, I'd like to share an intro video with some information about Sargeant: Back to School Video 

Note from the Principal 
As many of you saw this week, I am a principal and a mom...easy to say that it was a little crazy this week balancing my boys getting back into the routine and getting back into the routine of being a principal to 445 amazing kids!  There were some bumps along the way and attempts at multi tasking my mom/principal hat. Thank you for understanding the mix up with the multiple calls this week.  I'd like to promise I won't mess up again, but let's be honest...mistakes happen.  We learn and grow from them. :)

New this year - books for birthdays.  Each child will get called up to pick out a book on their birthday.  A big thank you to the Rotary Club of Roseville for awarding a $500 grant for this project.  

Sami's Circuit
Sami's Circuit is brought to us by Sami Kader, someone who grew up in Roseville and attended the Roseville City School District.  He brings a powerful message to our students every year about being kind to others and ourselves.  He also talks about the importance of a healthy lifestyle.  

This year Sami's Circuit is supported by a grant from Raley's Extra Credit Program.  For 80 years, Raley's has been contributing to the communities in which they serve.  Through their community giving programs, Raley's gives more than $10 million each year to various organizations throughout Northern California and Western Nevada regions.

We are thankful for the support of Raley's!

¡Terminamos la primera semana completa de clases y nos encanta cada minuto! Gracias a todos los que asistieron a la Noche de Regreso a la Escuela el jueves por la noche. Agradecemos su apoyo en la educación de su hijo.



Nota del Director
Como muchos de ustedes vieron esta semana, soy directora y madre ... fácil de decir que fue un poco loco esta semana equilibrar a mis hijos para volver a la rutina y volver a la rutina de ser un director de 445 niños! Hubo algunos baches en el camino e intentos de tareas múltiples para mi madre / director. Gracias por entender la confusión con las múltiples llamadas de esta semana. Me gustaría prometer que no volveré a meter la pata, pero seamos honestos ... los errores suceden. Aprendemos y crecemos a partir de ellos. :)

Nuevo este año - libros para cumpleaños. Se llamará a cada niño para que elija un libro el día de su cumpleaños. Un gran agradecimiento al Club Rotario de Roseville por otorgar una subvención de $ 500 para este proyecto.

Circuito de Sami
El circuito de Sami nos lo trajo Sami Kader, alguien que creció en Roseville y asistió al distrito escolar de la ciudad de Roseville. Él trae un poderoso mensaje a nuestros estudiantes cada año acerca de ser amables con los demás y con nosotros mismos. También habla sobre la importancia de un estilo de vida saludable.


Este año, Sami's Circuit cuenta con el apoyo de una beca del Programa de Crédito Extra de Raley. Durante 80 años, Raley ha estado contribuyendo a las comunidades en las que sirven. A través de sus programas de donaciones comunitarias, Raley's otorga más de $ 10 millones por año a varias organizaciones en las regiones del norte de California y el oeste de Nevada.

IB Learner Profile
The learner profile describes a broad range of human capacities and responsibilities that go beyond academic success. They imply a commitment to help all members of the school community learn to respect themselves, others and the world around them. The 10 attributes are what we strive to be as IB learners.  Each month we will focus on one attribute.  Once a month, in the blog,  we will include the attribute and ways to incorporate it at home.  

August: Caring

Students who are CARING want people around them to be happy and treat others
how they want to be treated. They think about the world and work to take care of their
community and the environment.  

How can families help at home?
- Role model the caring behavior you would like to see in your child all the time.

Using kind words, helping people without being asked, and being an active

listener all show your child that you care about people.

- Think about how your family can get involved with community organizations.

- Discuss as a family what you can do to take care of the environment.

- After reading a book, spend some time considering how the people in the book acted.

PBIS Information

As we begin the new school year we would like to introduce you to our school-wide positive behavior system that teachers and staff use here at Sargeant. The main focus of Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports, or PBIS, is to provide a clear system for all expected behaviors at Sargeant Elementary School. PBIS is a research-based framework that has been proven to improve school climate and reduce problem behaviors, thereby increasing instructional time in schools (for more information, visit www.pbis.org).

This school-wide system includes proactive strategies for defining, teaching, and acknowledging appropriate student behaviors in order to build a positive school climate. A specific system of acknowledgements will be used to help motivate students to engage in these positive behaviors and encourage other students as well. Therefore, an important piece of PBIS is the creation of school rules that will come to embody Sargeant Elementary, and its students. Our school rules are:

·      Be Safe

·      Be Responsible

·      Be Respectful

General Process:

Students will learn what the three rules look like in every aspect of the school (cafeteria, library, walkways, classroom, etc.). As a part of our acknowledgement system, teachers, meal duties, and all school staff members will distribute “Bulldog Bucks” any time they recognize a student being Safe, Responsible, or Respectful. The Bulldog Bucks are then deposited by the student into their classroom “Bulldog Buck Bucket.” Bulldog Bucks are then drawn from individual classes and from school-wide drawings for tangible rewards.

Perfil de estudiante IB
El perfil del alumno describe una amplia gama de capacidades y responsabilidades humanas que van más allá del éxito académico. Implican un compromiso para ayudar a todos los miembros de la comunidad escolar a aprender a respetarse a sí mismos, a los demás y al mundo que les rodea. El oyente le muestra a su hijo que usted se preocupa por las personas.

Información de PBIS
Al comenzar el nuevo año escolar, nos gustaría presentarle nuestro sistema de comportamiento positivo en toda la escuela que los maestros y el personal usan aquí en Sargeant. El enfoque principal de Intervenciones y Apoyos de Conducta Positiva, o PBIS, es proporcionar un sistema claro para todos los comportamientos esperados en la Escuela Primaria Sargeant.
