Wellness Tip for Week of 11/20 - Even superheroes need help

Asking for help can feel scary, hard, and sometimes even embarrassing. Did you know that asking for help actually makes you brave, strong, and courageous? Here are some tips for ways to ask for help. Look at what ideas Super-Robot has, pick the one you like, and color it in so you have a way to ask for help the next time you feel stuck and have tried your best. Remember that everyone needs help sometimes.

Drop Off/Pick Up - Front of the School
Please be aware that drop off and pick up can be a hectic part of the day.  Unfortunately, school parking lots were not build with the idea that hundreds of kids would be coming and going at the same time.  Please be patient, watch for kids, and follow the rules of the road.

When dropping off and picking up at the front of the school, please follow the drop off line.  Only one line of cars comes into the parking lot at a time.  If you are parking your car on the street and walking your child to the front of the school, please use the crosswalk by the multi or cross in front of the drop off/pick up line by the kinder area. When parents and kids cross in the middle of the parking lot it's very unsafe.

The red X are the safe areas to cross the parking lot.

Pick Up - Don't forget your signs on your dashboard.

Start Time
Don't forget that we start at 8:30 this year.  Kids can start heading to class at 8:15.  Please make sure your child arrives on time so we can get started with the day at 8:30.

Absence Reporting
If your child is going to be absent from school, you can call the school or fill out the online form.  The form can be found under Parent Resources on our web site or it is linked below.

Sargeant Families Blog - Fall Break

In our current situation with COVID, it's easy to get irritated and find things that make us unhappy. Now more than ever, I think we need to focus on the good things - the things that make us smile, the things that we are thankful for.

As the principal of Sargeant, I am thankful to be a part of such a hard working, caring, and dedicated staff. I am thankful for a parent community that supports our school and staff. I am thankful for the kids and the fact you share them with us every day. I am thankful that although I may not be able to hug them right now, I have been able to develop the "elbow" connection with many of them. Their smile every day, their hellos, and see you tomorrows. They make me smile.

I am thankful for my family who supports me, my friends who are there to listen, and my little girl who is always happy to see me (she just happens to be my dog).
There are many things....

I challenge you to take some time as a family this break to share the things your are thankful for in your life.

Have a happy and healthy week off! Rest, relax and read. 💙📚

Take care,
Principal Peck

COVID Responses from Placer County Office of Education - Important Information
Please take time to click on the link above and read the different scenarios for when your child has symptoms, been exposed to someone with COVID or tested positive themselves.
If your child is not feeling well, please have them stay home and contact the office.

Note: If your child has symptoms that may be COVID related, we will ask that you stay home until a nurse contacts you.

Free and Reduced Meals

Free and Reduced Meal Applications are more important than you might think.

The Free and Reduced Meal program typically provides assistance to those who qualify, and even though meals are free for all students for this school year, we are asking you to please take a moment and fill out a Free and Reduced Meal application online at ezmealapp.com. The application is due by December 15, 2020.

The number of students that qualify for the Free and Reduced Meal program impacts many services and programs that RCSD offers families.

Our students and schools are at risk of losing 23% of the supplemental grant funding that supports those programs due to the lack of applications submitted to date.

Wellness Tip for Week of 11/13 - Cookie Jar of Calm
When hard things happen, it’s easy for our brain to  focus on what’s going wrong. All of a sudden our brain takes us on a trip to remember the hard time and it can feel like we’re stuck in fog or a funk. The cookie jar of calm is  a fun way to remind our brain to see daylight at the end of the fog. Spend some time adding sweet moments and memories to the cookie jar using the cookies below. This can help remember the sweet moments and deposit them into the cookie jar. Take out a sweet treat when you or your child find yourself in a funk.

General Pick Up Information
Just a reminder:
- All walkers will be released from their classroom when the bell rings.
- If kids are walking home or walking to meet you in the back or front, then let them know they are considered walkers.  They can come out any gate that works for you....just let them know the meeting spot.
- If kids are being picked up in a car in the front loop, we radio their names.  They stay in their class with their teacher until we radio their name.
* If you have any questions, please talk you your child's teacher.

Pick Up in the Front Car Loop
On Friday all kids received a sheet of paper that has their teacher's last name and their first name.  This is for pick up in the car loop in front of the school.
- Please place the paper on your dashboard for pick up.
- We will radio for your child when we see it.
- If you are not using it, store it in your glove box.  You may use it on a rainy day that you didn't plan :)
- If pick up plans change, let your child know.

Sanitizer Donation Update
Originally we thought the sanitizer had to be at least 70% alcohol, but we have now found out it can b 60% or more.

How much alcohol should my hand sanitizer have?
If soap and water are not readily available, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends consumers use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60 percent alcohol (also referred to as ethanol or ethyl alcohol).Jun 1, 2020

Sargeant Families Blog - November 9th -13th

We have had a great return to school this week!  The energy the kids bring to campus has been missed for so long and it was nice to fill the rooms with kids again.  Now that we are back in person, we definitely want it to stay that way.   Please continue to do your part at home by wearing masks and staying safe whenever you go out.  As the saying goes, it takes a village to raise a child, and I also think it takes a village to keep our kids attending school in person.  :)  If your child isn't feeling well, please keep them at home until they are better.

Take care,

Principal Peck

Chromebook Return - Students in Person

If you haven't brought back your child's Chromebook, please bring it by Monday or Tuesday to the office.

  • If you have a post-it at home, please place one on the Chromebook with your child’s first and last name, as well as their teacher’s name.

  • If you purchased insurance from School Device Coverage (SDC) for the device issued to your student, you still have access to utilize that service if your student accidentally damages a device assigned to them while on campus, or if your student’s cohort or school is placed back on quarantine.

  • If you did not purchase insurance for the device assigned to your student, and your student damages a device assigned to them while on campus, you may be charged for the damage.

Here is the cost for repairs and replacement of the Chromebook, also for reference.

A reminder all families can purchase insurance through December 4th for just $24. For reference, a broken screen is $99 to repair.  To purchase insurance, follow the instructions on this page of the district website.

Morning Drop Off
Just a reminder that gates will not open until 8:15 for kids to come onto campus.  Once they come onto campus, they are to head through one of the open gates and head straight to class.

Dismissal
It's getting smoother each day! Just a reminder to let your kids know how they are getting home.
Walkers and Adventure Club - get released at the bell
Cars Out Back - get released next
Cars in the Front Loop - we will radio for the child
* If you are out of your car waiting for your child out front, please tell them they are considered a walker.
* Please do not have your child run to you through the parking lot.  Running between cars can be very dangerous and we don't want anyone to get hit.  Please have them cross in front of the line or by the multi.

Online Library Book Checkout

We have a brand new library program! You can now put books on hold from home. It's so awesome. We now have an online catalog of our library books. This online library catalog allows students, parents, and teachers to view and select any book our library has to offer. It is called Destiny Discover.

We can search books by title, author, topic, reading level, genre and grade level. There are pictures of the different topics to help your children find the book they want! It's super user friendly.

After putting your book on hold. You will receive an email notification for when your book is available for pickup. If you are in Champions, come to the front office to pick up your book after you receive your email. If you are in person, your book will be delivered to your classroom. Students can keep books for two weeks. Champions will return their books to the front office and in person will return to their teacher.

If you have any questions please reach out to me at dallen01@rcsdk8.org.
