The Book Corner
The Book Corner is a little different this week.  We want to take a moment to thank Mrs. Danielson's Zebra Class for collecting and donating money to buy new books for the library.  They even gave ideas on what to buy.  Because of them, we now have new space books and unicorn books which have been in high demand!  Thank you kids for thinking about our library and our school!

One section stood out:  Cookbooks for kids!
This year there is an entire table dedicated to kid themed cookbooks so if your child loves to cook, this is for them.

Star Wars: Galactic Baking - A baking journey through the Star Wars galaxy with treats inspired by fan-favorite planets.

Unicorn Food - Learn to turn everyday desserts into colorful delights with easy step by step instructions.

Principal Letter - English and Spanish

We are so excited for the Book Fair next week!  Make sure to plan ahead.

March Read Aloud and The IB Attribute

It has been so much fun reading in classroom s this month.  Our IB Attribute for March is Thinker.  Our Sargeant students are amazing thinkers who share great ideas during our time reading together.
We have been reading and discussing "Who Says Women Can't Be Doctors?" by Tanya Lee Stone.  This book honors Elizabeth Blackwell, America's first female doctor.

Thinker

They exercise initiative in applying thinking skills critically and creatively to recognize and approach complex problems, and make reasoned, ethical decisions.

Please pull all the way up to the yellow curb at drop off and pick up.  Please also avoid passing cars in the drop off line.  I know it is tempting when we see an open space, but we want to keep our pick up drop off safe and friendly.  If everyone pulls all the way forward, we will be able to get more students in and out of cars more quickly.

Thank you

The Book Corner
This week's selections are about strong female leads and friendship.

Mrs. OConnors recommends:
Enola Holmes: Enola is the younger sister of Sherlock Holmes who becomes a detective when her mother goes missing.  There are 7 books in this series and we have them all.

The War that Saved My Life: Ada is disabled and chooses to run off with her brother to escape war.  This is about their adventures along the way.  Mrs. O'Connors and Mrs. V. give this book 2 thumbs way up!

The Series of Unfortunate Events: A story about 3 siblings who are trying to get away from a villain who wants to steal their fortune!

Mrs. Vandivier recommends:
Stick and StoneA lonely tree branch and rock find friendship and strength together. A chance encounter leads Stick to stand up for Stone against a bullying pine cone. Now inseparable, the two explore and play.  Great book to discuss friendship and being strong!

Bulldog Buck Drawings and Prizes
Student attendance is very important. We want our Bulldogs to be at school on time each day and for the full day. There is so much for students to learn and be apart of when they are at school. One of those cool things is the morning announcements that includes drawings and prize winners. When students are not on campus for the announcement of their name being drawn for the Bulldog Buck drawing, another name is drawn for the prize. Please make sure that your student is at school on time each day to avoid missing the morning activities in the classroom as well as the morning announcements.

Parent Surveys

Thank you for taking the time to complete the parent survey. As of today, we have 173 responses! That is amazing. We will be reviewing the parent survey at our Site Council Meeting on Tuesday night.

Congratulations to Kindergarten and 3rd Grade!!! These two grade levels had the highest percentage of participation and have earned an extra recess with Mrs. Barker. We are excited to go out and play on a day when the sun is out!

"Press Start" Production Was A Hit!!!
Thank you to our amazing directors, Ms. Ellison and Mrs. Danielson and to all of the volunteers who provided support for this production.  It was great to see a packed house on Thursday and Friday night.

The Book Corner:  This month is Women's History Month and our selections are all about strong females. Here are some recommendations from Mrs. O'Connors and Mrs. Vandivier. This week all books can be found in our school library.

Mrs. O'Connors recommends:  Mary Wears What She Wants: Inspired by Mary Edwards Walker, this book tells the story of a young girl who decides to wear pants when this was not the norm.  The House that Jane Built: A store about Jane Addams who opened up her house as a community center in Chicago.  Anybody's Game: A story about a little girl who was the first girl to play little league.

Mrs. Vandivier recommends:  Anne of Green Gables (graphic novel): The story of an orphan girl who finds a home with elderly siblings. A beloved classic that is being reintroduced to children in graphic novel form.

Sargeant PTC

The PTC is looking for new volunteers! Sargeant Elementary is a great place to learn and we have an amazing community of students, families, and staff. The PTC raises money for and plans:

  • school events like Fall Festival and Skate Night
  • school improvements like the playground shade structures and the incoming water bottle filling stations
  • programs like Art Docent and Walk Through History
  • helps to fund field trips
This spring we have a lot of fun events planned: family dance, book fair, stargazing night, A Touch of Understanding, 5th grade Step Up ceremony, and our yearbook. All of this happens because of work done by members of our community just like you. This fall we will have openings for several board positions and we are looking for committee chairs to help plan events. Many of our volunteer opportunities have low-time commitments and our existing members are happy to teach newcomers how positions work and support you as you learn. Come to our meeting this Wednesday, March 8 at 7pm on campus to find out how you can help support our Bulldogs.

Book Fair

Volunteers are still needed for the crosswalk areas during drop off and pick up.  Please contact Mrs. Barker if you are interested in this volunteer opportunity.
