Happy Summer!  This last blog post of the school year contains dates and information for you for this week and throughout the summer.  

I hope that you all find time these next couple of months to relax, enjoy the outdoors, and enjoy the company of each other.

Summer Activities
Some have been asking about ideas for the child for over the summer.  Just like any summer, I encourage you to have your child relax, have fun, explore, create and just be a kid.  They can help cook, clean up around the house, build forts, go on walks, take a nature scavenger hunt, and more!  As always, continue to read: read as a family, have them read on their own, and read to them.

If you are looking for more structured work for them to do, IReady and EduTyping continue to be available ver the summer.  They can log in an work independently on their Chromebook/computer. Below is a list of resources/ideas sent out by the district office.

5th GradersWe are wishing our 5th graders good luck as they enter middle school in August.  Since we weren't able to do our walk to congratulate them on the last day, the staff put together a video that was sent to all of them.  Here it is for you to check out too! 5th Grade Video. 

Chromebooks

If you checked out a Chromebook to use over distance learning, we will not be collecting them just yet.  We only need to get back those that are not returning to our school district next year.  If you have a Chromebook and you know you are not returning, please email Mrs. Peck at rpeck@rcsdk8.org.

Thank you to all of those that were able to return their book.  If you have come across more, you can drop them when you pick up student items on June 2nd.

PTC will be placing the yearbooks that were purchased in your child's bag for pick up on June 2nd. The times for pick up are below.

If you have an incoming student to register, new to Sargeant, please make sure they get registered as soon as possible.  If someone moves into your neighborhood and they need to register their child, please direct them to the district website for registration.  They can also call the district office over the summer at 916-771-1600.

Here is the latest video from our school psychologist, Kristen Baisden, and her field workers.  These are some great tools for support not only during this time but all the time. 

This week's lesson focuses on different size problems: tiny, little, medium, big problem, and huge problem; along with examples at each level.

EduTyping Now Available for all Students in Grades 1-8 

Part of the Roseville City School District Digital Literacy plan, all students in grades 1-4 were given access this school year to a typing program called EduTyping.  Edutyping was kind enough to give the program to all 5th-8th grade students in our District for free from now until August 2021.   The goal of this program is to help students improve their typing fluency. Here are instructions on how students can log into EduTyping.  EduTyping Login Instructions 

IReady

IReady instruction is available for students in Kinder-5th grade for reading and math until July 23rd. This is a great opportunity for your child/children to work on reading and math at their instructional level. If you haven't had your child log on yet, please have them do so this week so their teacher can help problem solve any issues before summer break. Your child will be able to continue working on it in the summer if you want. This is something they can do independently without your help.

Attention 5th Grade Parents!

Two Things:

- We are planning a little surprise for our 5th graders and need to make sure we have everyone's current address. If your address is not current in Power School because you have moved this year and haven't updated it, please email Mrs. Peck at rpeck@rcsdk8.org.

- Mr. Brown, from Eich, has reached out to all of you via email asking you to send a picture of your child to him wearing yellow. He is putting together a video. If you haven't done so, and would like to, please email his today. He is working on the video this weekend. His email is dbrown@rcsdk8.org.

Sargeant Families Blog - May 11th- 15th

Hi Everyone!  Thank you for all the social media messages and emails to staff this week in honor of teacher and staff appreciation.  We are lucky to be surrounded by such a wonderful community.  A big thank you and kuddos to all of you who have been thrown into being a teacher yourself right now and supporting your child (or children!) during this time.  I know everyone is doing their best and making things work for their family. Don't be too hard on yourself. Children are resilient and we will all get through this. 

I know there are many questions about next year.  Please know that our district is planning for school to start in August and will be following state guidelines.  To ease concerns that have been expressed, just know that we will not be starting in July. 

Everyone is in a unique situation right now navigating online learning with their child.  If you are in need of support, please reach out to me or your child's teacher.  If you are experiencing other needs for support, please make sure to fill out the form further down in the blog.

¡Hola! Gracias por todos los mensajes de redes sociales y correos electrónicos al personal esta semana en honor a la apreciación de los maestros y el personal. Tenemos la suerte de estar rodeados de una comunidad tan maravillosa. Muchas gracias y felicitaciones a todos los que han sido convertidos en maestros en este momento y en apoyar a su hijo (¡o niños!) Durante este tiempo. ¿Necesita libros de verano para su estudiante? PTC está organizando una Feria de Libros Scholastic en línea a partir del lunes. La Feria del Libro se realizará del 11 al 24 de mayo. El 25% de los ingresos se devuelve a Sargeant en los libros. Se ofrece envío gratuito en pedidos superiores a $ 25 y los pedidos se enviarán a su hogar. Comprar en línea significa que tendrá una selección mucho más amplia de libros para elegir que una Feria del Libro tradicional. ¡Feliz compra!

Thank you for your continued partnership to support your child as we continue distance learning.  We couldn't do this without all of you.  It was great to see those of you who picked up a second round of materials this week. Loved that I was able to see many kids too.  Sending virtual hugs to all of them.

How can families help at home?

- Have your child tell you three good things that happened at school.

- If your child is involved in a sport or activity, ask them what area they need to improve upon.  How do they know?  What can be done to improve?

Yearbooks

I know many have been asking.  Information will come out from PTC at a later date about yearbooks.  If you ordered one, you will get it.  Distribution will be near the end of the school year.
