Girls on the Run

We are so excited to offer Girls On the Run this year!  This is a wonderful opportunity for girls in grades 3-5 to have fun, make friends, increase their physical activity levels and learn important life skills.  The program runs for 10 weeks and will start in March.  During this time they will work with and learn from our Sargeant coaches (two of our fabulous teachers) while training for a 5K. Practices will be after school on Mondays and Thursdays. Registration opens on February 6th!  Please reach out to Cathy Gibson (cgibson@rcsdk8.org) or Jennifer Danielson (jdanielson@rcsdk8.org) with questions about the program or registration.  You can also find out more information about the program by visiting GOTRsac.org. The cost is $145 for registration. Financial assistance is available.

Get Connected with Reading and

The Community

The Book Corner
Welcome to the book corner, where Mrs. O'Connors and Mrs. Vandivier will share suggestions for books your kids can read or try at home.  The idea is to build a love for reading and open their world to other books and genres.

If your child loves, or has grown out of, The Magic Treehouse series, here are some ideas for other books that they may enjoy...

Dragon Masters - a magical dragon stone picks a few lucky kids to become dragon masters.  They have many epic adventures in their quest for good.

Ranger In Time - a search and rescue dog that travels to different time periods to help others solve mysteries.

The Secret Zoo - In search of his sister, a young boy sets out on an adventure with help from some friends from the zoo.

Books may be found at the Sargeant Library, Roseville public libraries, local bookstores, Amazon and Scholastic.

IB Assembly @ 10:15 AM - Gate opens for parents attending at 10:05 AM

Thursday, 1/26

ELAC Meeting @ 2:20-3:30 in Room 11 - Parents Welcome - Please notify the school office if you plan to attend and would like a translator provided.

What is ELAC?

  • A school-level English Learner Advisory Committee comprised of parents, staff, and community members designated to advise school officials on English Learner programs and services

  • Each California public school with 21 or more English Learners must form an English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC)

  • ELAC members participate in ongoing meetings to collaborate with site administrators and staff throughout the school year

Why do we have and ELAC?

  • When parents and schools work together as a team, students have increased opportunities to reach their full learning potential.

  • Parents have the right to understand and participate in their students’ education.

Volunteer Support Needed: Our lost and found is overflowing with jackets, sweatshirts and other miscellaneous items.  Please contact the school office if you would like to volunteer to sort the lost and found by size so we can best facilitate a parent/student check for missing items before we collect the items for donation.

Healthy Foods Policy

The RCSD Board Policy is based on the California Healthy Schools Bill SB12, which has been passed by the state lawmakers.

To support this policy, we will continue implementing the following procedures at Sargeant School concerning distribution of foods in the classroom, both by the teachers and students.  We will not be allowing students to bring in food items to share with the class on birthdays or other special occasions.

Teachers will still hold occasional class parties during the year (Halloween, Valentine’s Day, Merit Parties, End of the Year, etc. ).  This is the time to enjoy those special treats, along with some healthy snacks.

Thursday, 1/19/23 - Papa Murphy's Dine Out Night

January IB Attribute: Open-minded

An OPEN MINDED student knows that all people are different.  They listen to the points of view of others and consider many possibilities before making a decision.  They celebrate the differences in everyone.

How can families help at home?

-Expose your child to different festivals, celebrations and traditions.

-Encourage your child to value others’ opinions.

-Teach them about your family culture.

Being on Time Everyday Makes a Difference

Students should be in their classroom by 7:45 AM to start the day on time with their class community. It feels great when we start the day all together. Gates close at 7:45 AM. All students must check in at the office when arriving after 7:45 AM.

Dropping Students Off Safely:

Please pull all the way forward and remain in your vehicle when dropping off your student. This allows us to get more students out of their cars safely and into their classrooms on time each day. If you need to leave your vehicle, please park in one of the Sargeant parking spaces or appropriate parking spaces on the street. Please make sure not to park in the bus zone. Signs are posted on North Cirby.

Rainy Days:

You may have noticed that the back park gate is not open on rainy days. Our teachers are in their classrooms with students and the playground is closed. The side gate on North Cirby is open and students may also come in at the front entrance. We do not have supervision in the back on rainy days. Please contact Mrs. Barker if you have any questions or concerns.
