Sargeant Families Blog March 1st-5th

Thank you for your time this week to participate in your child's conference.  We appreciate your support as we continue to progress through the school year.

As some of you have heard, sadly, the large oak tree on the hill split and fell during the winds on Wednesday.  Although we haven't been able to enjoy the shade under it for a couple of years (due to safety), we are still thankful it fell when no one was around.

Music Corner
Don’t forget to do your music lessons every week! In February the music team went to sea with a video animated by our very own Mrs. Sugano. In March we will feature an Irish folk song called The Rattlin’ Bog. We hope our lessons inspire your family to make music together!

All the best,
The RCSD Music Team

CASSPP Testing for 3rd-5th Graders
The state testing, also known as CAASPP will be taking place this spring.  Check out this website for more information: CAASPP Testing Information for Parents

Testing will be after spring break during April and May for Language Arts and Math.  As we get closer to those dates, your child's teacher will communicate the exact dates to you.  The 5th graders also take a science test which will be at the end of March.

ELPAC Testing
The English Language Proficiency Assessments for California (ELPAC) will take place of our English learners in April.  Testing will be completed during the school day.
The assessment measures the student's English language in reading, writing, speaking and listening.

Yearbook
Information came home this week with your child about ordering a yearbook online for this school year.  The paperwork also has information about how you can upload pictures.  Please check out the information so we can make sure all kids are in the yearbook.  You can also check the flyers out below.

Picture Day
We will be taking pictures of students in person for the yearbook. The pictures are not professional, they will just be taken with a cell phone in order to get all the kids in the yearbook. The picture days are as follows:

Monday, March 8th - Kinder and 1st
Tuesday, March 9th  - 2nd, 3rd, and Mrs. Rainey's class
Wednesday, March 10th - 4th and 5th

Sargeant Families Blog - February 22nd-26th

Hello Sargeant Families,

I'd like to start off by sharing how respectful and polite all of your children are when they come to school.  From when they arrive to when they leave, their interactions with adults has been super positive.  I hear them say good morning, have a good day, thank you and more. I have been told by multiple adults about their politeness, including Mr. Brown, principal at Eich, when he came to visit.  Kuddos to them and you!

This upcoming week is conference week.  Here are some scheduling things to note:
- All conferences are on Zoom.
All kindergarteners will come to school from 8:30-11:30.
- All 1st through 5th graders will come to school from 8:30-11:50.
- If you have a kindergartener and an older child, there will be supervision for your kindergartner until 11:50 on their playground.
- Please make sure to pick up your child at the earlier time all and communicate the time with daycare providers.

As you prepare for your child's conference, keep in mind that their time in school since last March has experienced many twists and turns.  The good news is, it seems that it has finally straightened out and we are heading on a great path.  Since learning looked different while they were virtual, some children may not be where we would normally expect them to be at this time in the school year.  They are not quite there yet, but know they will get there. The conference is a time for you to hear the progress they have made, any support that the teacher is providing to help them get where they need to be, and how you can support at home.

Take care,
Principal Peck

Virtual Family Craft Night
Thank you for participating!

Sargeant Families Blog February 8th-12th

Safety Update
Front of the School
We are trying to staff adults in as many places as possible, but we don't have enough to cover all areas.  Currently there is no staff at the crosswalk on N. Cirby and Ridgecrest.  We continue to get reports that cars are rolling through the stop sign. Please stop and look for kids crossing.  They step out, thinking they are ok, and cars go right through the crosswalk.

Front Drop Off
Thank you for continuing to pull all the way forward to drop off your child in the morning.  It help makes the line go smoothly when we use all the space possible.

Back of the School
This week we have placed cones in the red area as a reminder to not park in the red zone.  This has helped greatly and allowed us to see the crosswalk in order to get safely across.  The cones will be removed next week, but please continue to stay out of the red zone.  The staff on duty is now waiting until a group is ready to cross and will then cross the kids/adults all at the same time.  We have seen this help with allowing cars to leave the area.

Hand Sanitizer Donations
If you are able to donate hand hand sanitizer with pumps, please drop off at the office.  Thank you!
