3 Cheers for Bucket Band

Our Bucket Band had their first performance Friday, 12/10 and they did an amazing job. Congratulations on all of your hard work and dedication.  Huge shout out to Mrs. Po-Ruff for leading these fantastic musicians. They even played Imagine Dragons and AC/DC!!

Congratulations to 3rd Grade!

They earned the PIE (Partners in Education) Grant and plan on using it to support students in painting self-portraits in acrylic. Here is what was written in their application, “Throughout our IB Unit of Inquiry of “Who We Are,” students explore and inquire about what makes us unique as individuals and what makes us a community. After painting self-portraits, we will take action by donating our work to the Sargeant School Library for an art display.”

12/6/21-12/12/21

Thank you for a wonderful and happy return from our Fall Break.  Teachers spent the week welcoming students back with open arms and lots of smiles.  We reconnected in meaningful ways and got underway with new learning and fun activities.

Welcome!

We are excited to welcome our new Mental Health Specialist, Hillary Blan.  Hillary has a Master’s Degree in Social Work and has experience working with children and families.  Her first day at Sargeant is Monday, 12/6 and she is excited to begin her journey as a Bulldog.  She will spend the next few weeks getting to know all of the teachers and students.  We are lucky to have her!  Keep your eyes out for more information from Hillary herself.

Our IB Learner Attributes mural has been finished!!

It is in the MPR and we are so grateful to our painter, Raphael Leiblum, for his great work.  THANK YOU to our amazing PTC for funding this project (and all of you for your fundraising efforts).  Our students and staff love it. We are so proud!

December: Balanced

Students who are BALANCED are healthy and are aware that eating properly and exercising are important in their lives.  They understand that it is important to have a balance between the physical and mental aspects of their bodies.

How can families help at home?

  • Role model this attribute by:

    • Playing outside

    • Going to the park

    • Making  dinner together

    • Reading a book

    • Playing  a board game

    • Going on a walk

    • Doing chores as a family

Kindness Club

Sargeant's Kindness Club is proud to support our community, and this year we have connected with the senior residents at The Terraces of Roseville. We have showered them with cards for Halloween and Thanksgiving, and for the holiday season, we are making homemade lap blankets. You can help support our acts of kindness by purchasing a Kindness bracelet. These bracelets are adjustable, waterproof, have our school colors, and help unite us in one school and one community. Plus, they make great holiday gifts! Bracelets are available for purchase in the school office. Thank you for continuing to make Sargeant great!

Early Release Day tomorrow

This is a reminder that school gets out early on Mondays!  Dismissal tomorrow is 2:00 pm.

Chips for Kids Toy Drive

We are collecting new, unwrapped toys to donate to children in need.  You can find a donation bin in our front office.

Safety

Please drive safely in and around our school.  This includes driving the speed limit, watching out for pedestrians, coming to a complete stop at stop signs, and driving slowly through the parking lot at drop-off and pick-up.  It is important to be patient and understanding as you wait in line.  There are many families who help get a child into or out of their car.  There is no need to jump ahead in the line or speed.  Our school runs an efficient process.  Typically the parking lot is cleared within 8 minutes of dismissal.  That’s great!  Thank you for your cooperation.

Upcoming Fundraisers on 12/8

 CLOCKS MOVED BACK!

With it getting darker earlier and our weather continuing to change, it is crucial that children are getting enough sleep and ready for school each day.  Please be sure to send a jacket or sweatshirt to school with your child.  The weather has proven to be temperamental lately and can change on a dime.  We are continuing to encourage students to make healthy decisions….whether that is food, clothing or sleep related.  Routines are key for helping children function and to come prepared to learn each day.  We are here to support you!

Attention parents: We need you for our English Language Advisory Committee.  This committee is responsible for the following tasks:

  • Advising the principal and staff in the development of a site plan for English learners and submitting the plan to the School Site Council for consideration of inclusion in the School Plan for Student Achievement.

  • Assisting in the development of the schoolwide needs assessment.

  • Ways to make parents aware of the importance of regular school attendance.

Our first ELAC meeting is scheduled for 12/7/21 at 4:30 via zoom.

School Site Council

We are in need of 2 additional parents to be on our School Site Council.  This group meets 5 times a year (we have already met once) to read, recommend and approve our Single Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA) and to help make decisions about the needs of our school.  It is important to have parent representation.  Our next meeting is scheduled for 12/7/21 at 3:30 via zoom.

*If you are interested in being on either of these committees please email Julie Murdaugh at jmurdaugh@rcsdk8.org

Update from Mrs. Rio

Mrs. Rio, our Mental Health Specialist in the Wellness Program will be transitioning into a new role with PCOE and her last day at Sargeant will be Friday, November 19th.  Please see her message below:

Dear Sargeant Students and families,

It is with a heavy heart that I am announcing my departure from serving Sargeant elementary as a Mental Health Specialist with the Wellness Program.  This past year at Sargeant has been incredibly special to me, and I will cherish every memory and relationship made.  Sargeant is truly a special place and it shines through the students and their smiles, laughter, and eagerness to come to school each day.  It was a very hard decision to make when deciding to accept this new opportunity with Placer County Office of Education.  I will miss the daily interactions with the Sargeant students, families, and staff.  I am grateful to have served the Sargeant Community and am sending thanks to each and every one of you.

With love,

Mrs. Rio

*If your child is currently receiving direct services from Mrs. Rio she will be contacting you soon to discuss the next steps.

Rainy days are upon us.  Please remind your child(ren) to stay out of puddles if they have regular shoes on, as well as to stay as dry as possible.  Please send your child with a sweatshirt/jacket and/or an umbrella (if they have one) as we do have several transitions throughout our day where they walk from place to place.  We want them to stay as dry as possible.  Wet children aren’t comfortable or ready to learn.
