February 5th-February 9th - Community Connection Blog

Principal Read Aloud

It was so much fun to read to classes on Friday.  We really enjoyed talking about taking responsibility for our choices while we read together.  Thank you to all of the teachers who invited me to their classrooms to read last week.

Sargeant Safety:

The students and staff participated in an Evacuation (fire) Drill last week. Everyone did a great job! Way to go, Bulldogs!

February 5th-9th

Wednesday, 2/7 - Showing appreciation for Mr. Gary

National Crossing Guard Appreciation Day

The office will be collecting cards for our Crossing Guard, Mr Gary to show our appreciation for his important work rain or shine!

Thursday, 2/8

A Touch of Understanding - 4th Grade

IB Attribute

Our learner profile attribute for the month of February is KNOWLEDGEABLE.

Students who are knowledgeable have explored relevant and significant concepts and can remember what they have learned. They can draw on this knowledge and apply it in new situations.

How can parents help to develop students who are knowledgeable at home?

  • Encourage your child to read books at home that correspond with the topics being covered in school.

  • Ask your child about what they are learning in school and engage them in conversations about it, for example:

    • "Why do you think that is an important thing to know about?"

    • "Can you think of anything happening in the world today that might be similar to that aspect of History?"

    • "You're learning about pulleys and gears at school? This reminds me of your simple machines unit in second grade...           have you noticed any similarities? How is what you're learning different?"

  • Foster any area that your child expresses an interest in with books and activities, but also be sure to encourage them to explore other areas.

  • Encourage your child to become familiar with current events and to read the newspaper and watch the news when appropriate.

Student Council Spreading Kindness:

Valentine's Day is around the corner, and we want to spread kindness and friendship here at school! The Student Council will be selling Valentine's Day candy grams Monday through Friday next week (2/5-2/9). A candy gram is a small card that your child can purchase for a friend. They can write a kind note to their friend, we will attach a jolly rancher to the candy gram, and they will all be delivered to students on Valentine's Day!

This is completely optional, but if your child would like to participate in the fun, candy grams will be on sale for $0.25 during lunch time at the blue picnic tables on the playground. There will also be a stack of candy grams available for purchase in the office if a parent would like to send one to a child :)

We have told students that they may only purchase up to four candy grams at a time. We can make change, but hopefully students are not bringing much more than $1.00 to school! Please reach out to Student Council Advisors Kristin Kvinnesland or Katie Palin with any questions!

With Kindness,

Spare Clothes

We encourage you to keep spare clothes in your child’s backpack.  With the changing weather, we are seeing a lot of wet and muddy students.
