Sargeant Families Blog - August 19th-23rd

We love reading at Sargeant! Lots of reading going on throughout the school this week. We encourage you to read nightly with your child. They can read to you, you can read to them, or you both can read independently (so they can see you reading too!).

Pick Up After School
The past couple of days have been a little hectic on North Cirby after school. Here are a few reminders:
- Please keep the bus loading area clear. We have two buses that come in after school to pick kids up.
- If you are along the curb by the cones that say "No Stopping" then once the pick up loop starts moving after school, you are expected to move with it. This is not an area to park and wait for your child. This is a No Parking area. We understand that cars will be parked until 3:15, but once the lines starts moving, everyone should be moving.

This the the area where people are getting into the pick up loop.

- If you come to pick up and the line is not moving, please do not double park. There were two lines of double parked cars waiting for the bell to ring and this prevents any traffic from going by safely. If you arrive to school and cars are already there, please park further down the street until it is safe to move forward.

Young Rembrandts (Art Class) - Mondays After School
At Young Rembrandts we teach children to draw- the fundamental skill of all visual arts. We are the only Art Enrichment program that teaches art, using a methodology specifically designed to improve student perception, visualization and organizational skills. As a result, students show dramatic improvement in their drawing abilities, expand their art vocabulary and art history knowledge, demonstrate patience, discipline and focus, and improve their attention to detail and sequencing skills. COME DRAW WITH US! (Click the link in the title for more information.)

Musical
It's that time of the year for our musical auditions. Applications are now available for 3rd-5th graders and due no later than Friday, August 30th by 12:30. Below is the front page of the application. If your child is interested, make sure they talk to their teacher about an application.

Sargeant Families Blog Post - August 12th - 16th

We had a great first two days of the school year last week. 😀We are fortunate that you allow us to share your children with you on a daily basis. They are wonderful!

Thank you for your patience and understanding with the construction around the school. This week it should all be finished and cleared up.

Starting Monday, we ask that all students be dropped off at the gate and parents do not go on campus unless they check in with the office.  TK will be dropped off at their gate by room 15, kinder will line up outside their playground, and 1st-5th will enter the back gate by the park or the gate by the multi.  If you stay with your kinder out front, when the teacher walks them through the front door of the school, please don't follow them in.  We want to make sure we account for the adults on our campus so if you are staying to volunteer, please check in at the office.

On the first day of school you received a packet of information. It is important that you read,
complete, and return the following by Friday, August 16th to your child’s teacher:

  1. Social Media Form (blue)
  2. Annual Parent Notice/Internet Agreement (white)
  3. Field Trip Permission Slip to Willard Dietrich Park (yellow)

Many of you are involved in the school, and we cannot thank you enough for your time and
dedication to Sargeant.  Without you, many of the things at Sargeant would not be possible.
If you would like to be more involved, we encourage you to become a volunteer in the classroom
and/or join our Parent Teacher Club (PTC).  Our PTC does an amazing job organizing events and
they could use your help!

Front Parking Lot Reminder
Please use the crosswalks when walking your child to the front of the school. Do not cross in the middle of cars dropping their children off. There is a partial crosswalk by the kinder playground at the front of the drop off and another one by the gate near the multi purpose room. Thank you.

Sargeant Families Blog - August 5th -9th

Welcome Back Message from Principal Peck

First Days of School
On Thursday and Friday of the first week of school, you will be allowed to walk your child to their classroom.  Please make sure you designate a meeting spot after school as the gates will be closed until the bell rings.  Starting Monday, August 12th, all students will have to be dropped off at the gates and they will enter on their own.  At 8:35, 1st-5th graders are allowed to be on the playground. We do not have them enter the main part of campus as it is unsupervised.  At 8:45 the bell rings to head to class.  This is also when the back gate is locked by staff and kids arriving after need to head to the front of the school.  It's highly encouraged to be here before 8:45.  This allows class to start at the beginning of the day which is 8:50.

Drop Off and Pick Up
With the start of the new year, it's a great time to go over reminders for drop off and pick up.  If you are coming from the back side of school on N. Cirby, the drop off and pick up line typically starts there (depending on the time your arrive).  This line moves slowly so please be patient.  Since this is a moving line, please don't stay parked along the curb or leave your car unattended.

When pulling into the parking lot, please use one lane only.  If cars are trying to turn left from Ridgecrest into the parking lot, please be courteous and allow them in.  When you arrive to the front of the school, please pull all the way forward.  You may drop your child off when you are in front of the sidewalk; then wait until the cars pull forward in front of you and follow them out of the parking lot.  We prefer that you are not going around cars and forming two lanes.  This makes it dangerous for drivers and pedestrians.  If everyone is following the procedure, it won't take too long to get you out of the parking lot.

one lane of cars - pull all the way forward if there is room

If you park your car on the street and walk your child to the front of the school, please use the crosswalk by the multi purpose room or the partial one by the kinder playground.  Do no cut through cars as it is very unsafe.

Gearing up for the 2019-20 School Year

Hello Sargeant Families! Hope you have enjoyed the summer. We are excited for the new school year to begin and can't wait to see all of the kids and families.

Our custodians have been working hard this summer to prepare the building for the new year. We have also had two big projects that were overseen by our Maintenance and Facilities Department at the District Office. We have a fresh new blacktop and new roofs on all of our primary grade buildings.

We are gearing up for the new school year and I wanted to send you some dates and information for the next couple of weeks.

- Principal Peck

Sargeant Families Blog - Summer Break

It's hard to believe that it's May 31st and we are done with the school year.  Thank you for sharing your children with us this year.  We have enjoyed each and every one of them.  Along with the teachers, I have watched them grow over the year and I am proud of them.  I wish our students moving on to middle school the best of luck.  Those of you that are moving to other schools, I will miss you.  For those of you returning, I can't wait to see you in August!  Please take time this summer to have fun with your family: have them explore, create, design, build, and continue reading.  😍📚 I have included a few reading ideas on this blog post for you to check out if you are interested.  Reading is something important to continue even when not in school.  You can mix it up and read to your kids or have them read alone (or both!).  If you're looking for books, there is an online resource below, but the Maidu library is also a great free resource.  Every Friday we will also be posting read alouds by guest readers on Sargeant's Facebook account.  Check them out as much as you want!
See you all in August.

Registration for Next Year
If you have not registered online for next school year, please do so as soon as possible.  All students need to be registered online to start next school year.  If you need registration support over the summer, there is one last day at the district office on June 6th from 5:00-8:00.  The school office will also be open Monday, June 3rd if you need help.

Summer Reading with EPIC
Check out the link about to see EPIC's special for the summer.  It's an online reading resource with access to thousands of books!

Summer Reading
Looking for a creative way to engage in reading this summer?  Check out the BINGO form below.

EduTyping
As part of the Roseville City School District Digital Literacy plan, all students in grades 1-4 were given access this school year to a typing program called EduTyping.  The goal of this program is to help students improve their typing fluency. The program introduces students to typing using a row-by-row method with high frequency and sight words integrated throughout to reinforce reading comprehension.

We wanted to let you know that current 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th-grade RCSD students will have access to EduTyping over the summer for any students that would like to continue using this program.  Students in grades 1-4 in the 2019-2020 school year will have access all next year as well. Please see these instructions below on how students can log onto EduTyping at home.

Summer Lunch
Free lunch will be provided at multiple locations, including Eich's campus in the E Wing (6th grade side). Lunch will be served from 11:00-12:00 starting June 10th.  Please check out the links below for more information.

APEX
Thank you for all the work you are doing to help your child collect pledges.  The money raised will go towards supporting reading with books for classroom libraries and revamping the seating in our school library. The run is this Wednesday.  We are watching the weather day by day and hoping it doesn't rain.  We will communicate with you if there are any changes, but the run will still be on Wednesday.  If raining, we will have to move it into the multi.  If the fields are too wet, we may be running o the blacktop.  We will be sure to let you and the students know.

Field Day
We are getting excited about our 23rd Annual Sargeant Field Day this Friday from 9:30 - 11:45.  We will need volunteers to help with this fun event from 8:45 - 1:00 (the BBQ volunteers stay later).  Please check out the following link if you are interested in volunteering: Field Day - Volunteers Needed .  We still need a few more to make this event a success.

Moving Up Walk  - Celebrating Our 5th Graders
On the last day of school, May 30 at 1:20, we will be celebrating our 5th graders who will be moving on to middle school in our second annual Moving Up Walk.  This is a brief ceremony where all of our students will gather by grade level in a rectangle out on the primary playground. The 5th graders will walk out to music and walk around the other students as we cheer them on and celebrate them as they say good-bye to elementary school.  They will end in the center of all the students and then each grade level will "move up" in line to their next grade level. 5th grade parents are welcome to attend to cheer for your child.
