Sargeant Families Blog March 16th - April 3rd

Hello Sargeant Families,

As we navigate this time in our lives that is new to all of us, I want to make sure we continue to stay connected with you and your children.  The staff has all been on campus this week and we miss the kids like crazy.  School isn't the same without them in it.  Please give your children hugs from all of us.  The information below is keep you updated about these three weeks before break and answer any questions that you may have at this time.

Thank you,
Principal Peck

Resources from District and School
The district office and our teachers have sent home resources and ideas for you to use with your children during these three weeks.  They are to support your child if you would like them to do it, but they don't have to do them.  It's optional.

Lost and Found
Our lost and found was overflowing and we were thinking you might need some of the items.  They have all been placed on the outside gates in the front.  Please practice social distancing if you stop by and make sure to wash the items.  Not sure how long they have been piled up with everything. :)

Schedules and Routines
Some of you have asked how to navigate this time with your children at home.  There are lots of ideas going around on social media if you are on Facebook or Twitter.  One thing that is recommended is coming up with schedule for the day so you maintain some routine to help you and your children.  To empower your children and make them feel a part of the process, you might want to get their input on the schedule.  You can provide choices to them so they can pick (but make sure you are good with each choice).  For example, you may ask, "Do you want read you book before lunch or after lunch?"    Feel free to reach out if you have any questions.

Breakfast and Lunch
We know many students received breakfast and lunch at school while school was in session.  Our food services department is still working to provide these meals for your kids.  The meals are "to go" only where you can show up with your kids to get their food and then head home.  There is not seating in the multi to stay and eat.  The food services department may consolidate to a few schools but right now all schools are serving at 8:30 for breakfast and 11:30-12:30 for lunch.

Update as of 3/18/2020 at 12:00
The Roseville City School District is committed to serving our children nutritious meals during the current school closure.  To that end, we continue to serve breakfast from 7:30 - 8:30 and lunches from 11:00 - 12:30 at the following school locations:
  • Cirby Elementary School
  • Woodbridge Elementary School
  • Eich Middle School
  • Buljan Middle School

Starstruck
We were fortunate to be able to reschedule Starstruck for April 29th and 30th.  If your child was scheduled for March 18th they will now perform on April 29th.  If your child was scheduled for March 19th they will now perform on April 30th.  We will send more details once school is back in session.

The head of the company is currently working on recoding videos with her staff to send to our school so we can share them with you.  Your kids can practice, if they want, at home.  This will also give them some fun exercise.

Book Fair
The book fair was also rescheduled for the week of May 11th.  We will send more details once school is back in session.

Sami's Circuit
Starting today Sami will be doing live broadcasts on youtube every weekday for kids.  He will be sharing positive messages, be available for everyone to interact with him, and of course, sharing ways to stay active and keep moving at home!

Virtual Spirit Week
While the kids are at home we thought it would be fun to stay connected with each other.  We are going to do a virtual spirit week next week on social media.  Each day a post will be shared with the day's theme.  If you want, you can drop in a picture of your child.  Here are the days:

Monday, March 23rd - Pajama Day

Tuesday, March 24th - Reading Day - Share a picture of you reading in your favorite place.

Wednesday, March 25th - U.S.A Day - Red, White and Blue

Thursday, March 26th -  Sports Day - Share a picture of you in athletic/sports clothes doing something active.

Friday, March 27th - Sargeant Spirit Wear or Blue

Hola familias sargentas,

Returning Registrations for the 2020-2021 School Year
We have 226 students registered for next year.  Please take some time to log on and register.  If you go to the district's web site at https://www.rcsdk8.org/, you can click on the registration button.  Then scroll down to returning registration.  The sooner you can get this done, the easier it is on the school site so we can get accurate numbers for next school year.  This includes if you have a 5th grader going to Eich.

Also, if you know new students coming into Sargeant, please let them know that they should be registering too.  They can contact the office if they need help.

Registration Help Night at the District Office on March 4th from 5:00 pm-8:00 pm

CAASPP Written Exemption
As in the past, parents/guardians who would like to exempt their child from taking any or all parts of the CAASPP summative state assessments (Smarter Balanced, CST, CMA or CAPA) must submit a written request to the child’s school.  All such requests will be honored per CDE Education Code.

Parents, if you are choosing to exempt your child from taking any of the assessments, you will need to submit a written request specifying your student’s name, grade and the test type/subject.  This needs to be submitted to your child’s teacher at Sargeant by March 9, 2020.  Remember, if your student does not test, this means you will not receive scores/results that provide clear information about whether they are working at expected levels and this may impact course placement.
