4th-5th Grade Sargeant Spelling Bee

We are very excited to share that over 60 4th and 5th grade students participated in the Sargeant Spelling Bee!  We are very proud of their courage and effort.  We have six students who will be moving forward to the next step of taking the District test.

Congratulations to our Sargeant Spelling Bee Winners:

Principal Read Aloud:

Mrs. Barker was invited to visit several classrooms on Friday to read and discuss the importance of positive safe play at recess.  Our students have great ideas about how to make recess safe and fun for everyone!

Lost and Found:

You may have noticed a change to our lost and found.  Mrs. Neira has organized our lost and found and added a hanging rack to make finding items much easier.  As it gets cold, please check the lost and found for your items.  Students often leave their jackets and sweatshirts on the playground.  

Lost and found items will be donated during winter break.  Please make sure to check the lost and found for any missing items.

IB Update:

Our learner profile attribute for the month of December is BALANCED. 

Students who are BALANCED are healthy and are aware that eating properly and exercising is important in their lives. They understand that it is important to have a balance between the physical and mental aspects of their bodies. They spend time doing many different things.

How can parents help to develop students who are well-balanced at home?

• Encourage your child to participate in a wide variety of structured activities.

• During less structured time, also be aware of the activities that your child is participating in. Too much time in front of the computer or television is obviously not desirable, but all kids need to do a variety of things. Generally active kids should take time for quiet reading or reflection; students who spend a lot of time drawing or reading, should be encouraged to also exercise and play.

• Discuss the food groups with your child. Spend a few minutes during a mealtime deciding if what your family is eating is balanced.

• Role model this attribute. Spend time as a parent or family doing many different things.

Student Council:

Hello Sargeant families! Thank you all SO much for your participation and generosity in this year's annual canned food drive. The canned food drive always gives students a chance to be thoughtful, and to take action by helping others in our community. Our drive will end this Wednesday, 12/6! So, if you have any last items you were hoping to donate, please send them to class with your child by Wednesday morning! Thanks again for your participation. The Placer County Food Bank is very grateful!

Thank you for your participation in parent teacher conferences. It was great to see parents meeting with teachers. When school and home work in partnership students benefit.

Our Sargeant staff is grateful for each other, all of our families, and our amazing students.  If you haven’t checked out our Instagram yet, please go to @RCSDSargeant to see what our teachers have been grateful for in November. They share some very nice videos of gratitude.

Eich Principal Visit

Mr. Brown visited our 5th grade classes last week.  It was great to see the students engaged in learning about middle school.  Mr. Brown emphasized how important it is for our 5th graders to focus on doing their best on their academics and behavior at Sargeant.  Middle school is coming, but we are here now so let’s make it a great 5th grade year!

Flag Football

I am considering adding Flag Football to our 4-5 lunch recess.  In order to make this happen, I will need a parent volunteer to be a facilitator, coach and sportsmanship mentor.  If you would like to discuss this with me, I would love to hear from you.  Please email me.  We will schedule a time to meet after Fall break.

PTC Dine Out at Papa Murphy's - 11/16 Flyer

Welcome to New Sargeant Staff!

We are excited to welcome Ms. Lesley and Ms. Venetia to the Sargeant staff.  Ms. Lesley has joined our MDS team and Ms. Venetia is our new TK IA.  Both are amazing parents at Sargeant who volunteered and now support our students in the classroom, cafeteria and on the playground each day as Sargeant team members.  Welcome Lesley and Venetia!

We still have one more MDS spot to fill.  If you are interested in joining our MDS team, I would love to speak with you.

If you have not done so already, please schedule a conference with your child’s teacher.  These meetings are very important for student success.

During conference week the elementary sites will be serving a 1 item menu for the week of 11/13 - 11/17. Conference week menu.

PTC News: Spirit Order Date Extended Until Monday!

You can shop for spirit wear on the Sargeant PTC website now through November 13. We have adult and youth sizes available.

Spirit wear orders will be sent home with your students during the week of December 4. 

Safety Reminder: Keeping Drop Off and Pick Up Time Safe

When Mr. Gary and/or students are in the crosswalk, please do not turn right through the crosswalk.  Please wait until the entire crosswalk has been cleared before making a right hand turn.  We are very fortunate to have a crossing guard supporting our students to cross the street safely.  Please watch for him, his sign, and the students.  

Student Council Update: Canned Food Drive

Tis the season to be grateful for all that we have, and to give back to our community! Sargeant is holding our annual canned food drive from Monday, November 13th through Wednesday, December 6th. Please send any canned food or non-perishable food items that you can spare with your child to class during this time! All of our donations will go to our local Placer County Food Bank. Clothes Closet

Our clothes closet is in need of pants.  Sweatpants are great for the boys or leggings for the girls. We need all sizes from 6-14.  We will accept gently used items as well.  We do not need shirts or shorts at this time.

Recess Soccer: (Correction Made)

Thank you to Mr. Pete for facilitating our recess soccer tournament.  The final game is on Tuesday, 11/7 at 12:45.  Students are very excited! Parents planning to attend will need to check in at the office before heading to the soccer field.

IB Attribute

Our learner profile attribute for the month of November is COURAGEOUS. 

Students who are COURAGEOUS have courage to try new things. They try to solve problems in a lot of ways. They have the bravery to tell people what they think is right.

How can parents help to develop students who are Courageous at home?

• If your child is feeling uneasy about trying something, encourage them to attempt it and then reflect on both whether they liked the activity and how it felt to try something new.

• Your child might want to set some short-term goals. Consider activities that make him/her nervous. What are realistic goals for the week? Your child might set a goal to:

• Offer an opinion in class

• Spend one recess with someone they might not usually play with

• Order something different form the lunch menu

• Try an activity they haven't tried before

• Be careful to explain to your child the difference between being courageous by trying new things and doing dangerous things.

Kindness for Veterans

Sargeant would love to spread some kindness for Veteran's Day by making cards to share with some local vets.  This is something you can do at home as a family.  All you need is paper, a pencil, and markers or crayons!  Keep it short and sweet and let a veteran know you appreciate their service to our country.  You can turn your handmade cards into the office and Mrs. Rainey or Mrs. Vandivier will deliver them.  Thanks!

Safety Drill Practice:

Sargeant students and staff successfully practiced a lockdown drill on Friday morning.  Staff will provide feedback for continuous improvement.

Morning Drop Off and Afternoon Pick Up

Loading Zones:

Please make sure to remain in your car when you are in a loading zone on North Cirby.  If you are planning on walking with your student to or from the gate for entry or exit, please park in areas that are designated for parking.  The cars parked in the loading zones are impeding the progress of the cars flowing through to pick up/drop off.

Red Curb:

Please do not park where curbs are painted red.  We need those areas clear for emergencies and safety. 

Entry and Exit from the Parking Lot:
The Sargeant parking lot has an entry driveway and an exit driveway.  Please make sure to enter and exit through the designated driveways.  Please avoid parking in the driveway areas.  

I realize that drop off and pick up can get stressful and convenient parking is sometimes a challenge.  Mr. Gary is ready to help cross families at the crosswalk as needed. 

Student Council:

Sargeant will hold our annual canned food drive from November 13th - December 8th this year! Join in the season of generosity by gathering canned foods and non-perishable food items to donate to your child's class beginning on November 13th. Everything we collect will be donated to our local Placer County Food Bank!

Unfortunately, they are unable to provide us with boxes this year. If you have any extra cardboard boxes, we would love to use those as a means to collect our donations! We are looking for 20 medium-large cardboard boxes for our canned food drive. Please bring them to the office if you have any extras to spare!

Lost and Found:

Thank you for stopping by the office last week to pick up lost and found items.  Unfortunately, we still have a significant number of items that were left behind.  These items will be donated.
