October 2nd-October 8th

Thank you for your generosity to help Kirk Elementary in Houston, Texas.  Together, as a school community, we raised over $700!  The money will be sent to Kirk for them to purchase items they need for their students.  Thank you for showing kindness and generosity to others!

Mrs. Peck read We're All Wonders to the students Friday (one class will be Monday!). Take
time to talk to your child about the message of being caring and kind to others.

PE News
We’ve had a great start to PE at Sargeant this year.  During the month of September students have had fun learning and practicing new skills and games.  Kindergarteners have been learning about their own personal space (space around them) and moving in general space (space within boundaries).  They have been practicing a variety of locomotor skills including moving at different levels (low, medium and high) and exploring with different equipment.  First and second graders have been exploring with equipment and have practiced underhand throwing.  They will be progressing from demonstrating underhand throwing to rolling for distance, to increasing their accuracy.  First through third graders have also played tag games where they are practicing moving through open space including chasing and fleeing within boundaries.  Third grade students have practiced underhand rolling skills and are working on rolling for accuracy.   Fourth and fifth graders started the year with cooperative games.  They have practiced underhand rolling games and we will soon be introducing throwing and catching games with offense and defense.    All students in grades one through five are walking/jogging weekly with their lap cards.  They are working towards earning foot charms for every three miles they complete.

Safety Update
Please make sure your children are using the crosswalks by the park and in front of school to cross the street.  Do not encourage them to run across the street and take a short cut.  Also, please do not have them climb the fence in the park to get to the street quickly.  Please have them exit out the open area.
