Returning Registrations for the 2020-2021 School Year

As of now, we have 198 kids registered.   Please take some time to log on and register.  If you go to the district's web site at https://www.rcsdk8.org/, you can click on the registration button.  Then scroll down to returning registration.  The sooner you can get this done, the easier it is on the school site so we can get accurate numbers for next school year.

Also, if you knew new student coming into Sargeant, please let them know that they should be registering too.  They can contact the office if they need help.

LCAP Survey from the District Office
The Roseville City School District (RCSD) is asking stakeholders to participate in an annual Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP) Parent Survey. The purpose of this survey is to gather information about the educational environment within RCSD that contributes to maximizing learning for every one of our students. The primary emphasis of this survey resides on the conditions of learning, pupil achievement outcomes, student and parent engagement, and pupil safety. The collective results from this anonymous survey will be shared with a variety of groups that guide local priority development, actions, and services on the Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP). We value each respondent, and it is vital that we get a representative sample from our community.

We are asking you to click on the link provided and complete the relevant survey. Please choose English or Spanish as you begin the survey LCAP Parent Survey.

Your responses will help guide the funding priorities and initiatives for the RCSD Board of Education. Thank you for your participation in this process; your time and attention to the survey are appreciated.

Crossing Guard
We are looking for volunteers to help at the crosswalk on Ridgecrest and Cirby after school. The pick up time at 3:15 seems to be much busier than the morning. The volunteer would assist students in the crosswalk walking over to meet their parents on the other side of the street. If you are able to commit to one day a week, please email Mrs. Peck at rpeck@rcsdk8.org. The time commitment would be 3:15-3:30. We are working with the Roseville Police and their volunteer program for training. Thank you!

Son's Night Out

ELPAC Testing
The English Language Proficiency Assessments for California (ELPAC) test begins this week for all students who are English Learners.  The assessment measure English skills in reading, writing, listening and speaking.  You can check out the link below to see practice questions.

California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP)
CAASPP testing will be this spring for 3rd-5th graders in English Language Arts and Math. Your child's teacher will send out specific dates for their class. 5th graders will also be taking the science test.

The following information contains links to support parents and their understanding of the assessments.
Starting Smarter Parent Informational Flyer(PDF) – This flyer provides information about the Starting Smarter website.
Starting Smarter Parent Informational Flyer, Spanish version (PDF) – This flyer provides information about the Starting Smarter website.
Parent Guides to Understanding – These guides provide parents with answers to key questions about the what, why, who, how, and when. They are available for each assessment program.

CAASPP Written Exemption
As in the past, parents/guardians who would like to exempt their child from taking any or all parts of the CAASPP summative state assessments (Smarter Balanced, CST, CMA or CAPA) must submit a written request to the child’s school.  All such requests will be honored per CDE Education Code.

Parents, if you are choosing to exempt your child from taking any of the assessments, you will need to submit a written request specifying your student’s name, grade and the test type/subject.  This needs to be submitted to your child’s teacher at Sargeant by March 9, 2020.  Remember, if your student does not test, this means you will not receive scores/results that provide clear information about whether they are working at expected levels and this may impact course placement.
