Girls on the Run
We are so excited to offer Girls On the Run this year! This is a wonderful opportunity for girls in grades 3-5 to have fun, make friends, increase their physical activity levels and learn important life skills. The program runs for 10 weeks and will start in March. During this time they will work with and learn from our Sargeant coaches while training for a 5K. Practices will be after school on Mondays and Thursdays. Registration is now open! Please reach out to Cathy Gibson or Jennifer Danielson with questions about the program or registration. You can also find out more information about the program by visiting GOTRsac.org.
The Book Corner:
This month is black history month and we are honoring the works of diverse authors who are sharing joyful stories.
Mrs. O'Connors is recommending several picture books (found in our library) that make an impact and show that anything is possible when we all work together:
Change Sings by Amanda Gorman
The 1619 Project by Nikole Hannah-Jones and Renee Watson
Little Cloud and Lady Wind by Toni Morrison
Mrs. Vandivier highly recommends the chapter book Ways to Make Sunshine by Renee Watson. It's the first in a series about Ryan Hart, a young girl who loves to spend time with her friends, loves to invent recipes, and has a lot on her mind—school, self-image, and family. No matter what, she is always finding a way to put a positive spin on things!
This series is on Mrs. O'Connors wish list for the library but Mrs. Vandivier has 6 copies to lend to anyone who is interested in reading this book. Just visit her room anytime this week!
On Friday, 2/10 the Sargeant students and staff did a fantastic job when the administration initiated a Hold through our Raptor emergency system. We were able to quickly clear the issue to allow for students and staff to return to their regularly scheduled activities.
A Hold means that we need students to stay in place and not transition to their next location in order for an area to be clear while assistance is occurring for a student or staff. The students and staff are alerted through Raptor and over the intercom to hold in their area. Everyone stays in place, even if the bell rings.
Great work being safe and following directions, Bulldogs!
Congratulations for Advancement to the Placer County Spelling Bee - Muibi Hassan-Olajoku!
