Drop Off and Pick Up
Please continue to following the procedures for the front of the school.  When you pull in, please pull completely forward and drop off/pick up your child.  If you are parking outside the parking lot and walking your child, please walk across the parking lot where the crosswalk is or at the very front of the drop off line (by the kinder area).  Please do not walk in between cars as we are trying to get people in and out of the parking lot and we want to keep everyone safe.  

Book Fair
The book fair will be held in our activity room ext week with a special evening night on the 19th during Open House. Thank you to everyone who has signed up to help.  We appreciate it!  There is still some room the schedule for volunteers.  Please check out this Sign Up Genius to see where you might be able to help.  

Open House
Please join us at Open House from 6:00-7:00 this Thursday.  The Book Fair will also be open during the night. If you still haven't registered yet for next school year and need support, we will have technology support on hand in the office to help you register your child.

Por favor continúe siguiendo los procedimientos para el frente de la escuela. Cuando se acerque, avance completamente y deje / recoja a su hijo. Si se estaciona fuera del estacionamiento y camina con su hijo, camine por el estacionamiento donde está el paso de peatones o en la parte delantera de la línea de descenso (cerca del área de kínder). Por favor, no camine entre los automóviles ya que estamos tratando de que las personas entren y salgan del estacionamiento y queremos mantener a todos a salvo.



Feria del Libro

La feria del libro se llevará a cabo en nuestra sala de actividades semana extra con una noche especial de noche el día 19 durante la Casa Abierta. Gracias a todos los que se han registrado para ayudar. ¡Lo apreciamos! Todavía hay espacio para los voluntarios. Por favor revisa este Sign Up Genius para ver dónde podrías ayudar.

Sargeant Families Blog - April 8th

Thank you to everyone who was able to join us on our first Family Math Night.  We are hoping to make this an annual event and would love any feedback.  I was very proud of our 5th graders who stepped up at the last minute and were great communicators as our station facilitators.  

April IB Attribute: Communicators
Students who are COMMUNICATORS are able to think and communicate in more than one language.  They can express their ideas by speaking, drawing, and writing.

How can families help at home?

• Encourage your child to stay in touch with relatives and friends who live in other countries by writing letters, drawing pictures, using the phone, or sending email.
• Read a book and discuss a book with your child.  
• Ask your child thought provoking questions and encourage them to discuss them with you.

Mother Son Event
This Friday is the PTC sponsored Mother Son Event and Golfland Sunsplash.  Please check out the flyer for more information.  Tickets forms need to be returned by Wednesday. 

The Book Fair is Coming!!!
The book fair will be held in our activity room April 16th-20th with a special evening night on the 19th during Open House. In order for this to be a success we need your help.  Parents/Guardians are needed this week to help set it up, next week to run the book fair, and the end of next week to break it all down.  Please check out this Sign Up Genius to see where you might be able to sign up to help.  Paula Skitarelic, our book fair chair,  is also looking for someone to help co-chair the book fair with her next year.  Please e-mail Mrs. Peck at rpeck@rcsdk8.org if you are interested and would like more information.

Gracias a todos los que pudieron unirse a nosotros en nuestra primera Noche Familiar de Matemáticas. Esperamos hacer de este un evento anual y nos encantaría cualquier comentario. Estaba muy orgulloso de nuestros estudiantes de 5º grado que se pusieron en pie en el último minuto y fueron excelentes comunicadores como facilitadores de nuestra estación.

Los estudiantes que son COMUNICADORES pueden pensar y comunicarse en más de un idioma. Pueden expresar sus ideas hablando, dibujando y escribiendo.

¿Cómo pueden las familias ayudar en casa?

- Anime a su hijo a mantenerse en contacto con familiares y amigos que viven en otros países escribiendo cartas, dibujando, usando el teléfono o enviando correos electrónicos.

- Leer un libro y discutir un libro con su hijo.


- Pregúntale a tu hijo sobre las preguntas que te hacen pensar y aliéntalo a discutirlas contigo.

¡La Feria del Libro está llegando!
La feria del libro se llevará a cabo en nuestra sala de actividades del 16 al 20 de abril con una noche especial de noche el día 19 durante la Casa Abierta. Sargeant Families Blog - March 26th

Thank you to all of the volunteers who helped make Starstruck a success.  We loved watching the kids take the stage and perform.  Thank you to all of you who gave up tickets in order to help make sure everyone could attend.  We are lucky to have an amazing community of families! 

We hope that all of our students and families have a wonderful spring break.  Take time to relax, enjoy time together and read a good book.  We will see you on Tuesday, April 3rd.

Sargeant Families Blog - March 17th

Friday was a fun rainy day to celebrate reading!  

Students enjoyed our Forts, Flannels and Flashlight day. 

This week we had a surprise visit from officer Glynn of the Roseville PD. 

He stopped by to play with some of our kinders.  

Report cards went home Friday.  Please check your child's backpack. 

Parent Survey 

Feedback is important to help us continue to grow as a school.  Please take time to fill out the Sargeant Parent Survey for this school year.  It will be open all week and close at the end of the day on Friday, March 23rd.  Once you have completed the survey, please print out and send the page that states it's completed with your child (write their name on it) and he/she will get an Otter Pop.  You can also screenshot it and e-mail it to rpeck@rcsdk8.org with your child's name and class and Mrs. Peck will bring your child an Otter Pop.  We appreciate your time and feedback!

Registration for Next Year
We still have over 100 kids who have not registered online for next school year.  All students need to be registered online as a returning student.  Please go to the district's web site and choose the Parents icon.  From there choose Student Registration on the right hand side.  Then choose 2018-19 Returning Student Registration.  Please call the office if you have any questions.

Starstruck 
The kids have been working hard to learn their dance routine for this week's performances. The performance will be professionally video taped and DVDs will be able to be pre-purchased the night of the show. As of now, the forecast calls for rain.  Please make sure to bring and umbrella to keep dry while waiting in line.  Also, send one with your child so he/she can use it as they are walking to the stage to perform.  Pre-sale ticket envelopes are coming home with students on Monday.  Please check their backpacks.  

Update:  After tickets were created to hand out to kids, all shows are sold out. 

Please Vote!
We have the chance to earn $10,000 just by voting every day at MyScholarDollars.com.  Please share with friends and family.  It's easy to forget to vote so find a way to remind yourself. Maybe a post it on your computer, a reminder on your phone...just an idea. :)   It's the easiest fundraiser ever but we need many people to vote.

CAASPP Notification and Parent Letter (3rd-5th Grade)
This May our 3rd-5th grade wills be taking the CAASPP test.  Please read through the following document from our district office regards to the testing.  We will start testing at Sargeant on April 30th and finish by May 18th.  Students will be using Chromebooks in their classroom to complete the test.  Please look for information coming home in April from your child's teacher for specific dates your child we be testing (they are not testing every day in the timeframe mentioned).

Sargeant Families Blog - March 9th

Studies show the importance of reading and how valuable it is for all students.                    March is National Reading Month and we would like to celebrate it at Sargeant.    I encourage you all to find time daily to read with your child.  It may be reading to them, listening to them read or reading next to them (modeling adult reading is valuable too!). Reading aloud to children is also very valuable - no matter how old they are.  Not only does it support reading but it also provides a chance to have some quality time with your child. If you need good book recommendations, check with your child's teacher.

Spanish Class - Before School Enrichment  - Flyers went home this week for the before school enrichment class.  There is a class before school on Thursdays for 3rd-5th graders and one on Friday for K-2nd graders. Space is limited.

March: Thinker

Students who are THINKERS work to solve problems independently.  They can imagine many solutions to a question or challenge.  Thinkers make good decisions and can predict the outcomes of their actions. They think creatively and critically.  

How can families help at home?

• Encourage your child to try to think of solutions to problems independently.
• Ask your child questions when they are working on a problem:

“Do you have any ideas about how we might begin?”

“How can we do this differently?”

“What other ways can you show that?”

“What made you think that?”

Student Council was able to donate $2,000 to Mrs. Kirkendall, and we will be purchasing two more recess picnic tables as well as a Memorial Bench to honor Néstor Boscán, who passed away last November.
